What is happening to Amhara People?
For several decades, Amharas have been selectively targeted, oppressed and ethnically cleansed in various parts of Ethiopia. During the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) regime, the Amhara people were labelled as a primary threat and enemy whom had to be suppressed by any means necessary. Millions of Amharas suffered unconscionable human rights abuses, including massacre, torture, imprisonment & state-violence.
From killings and imprisonment of Amhara leaders, forceful annexation of land, the resulting ethnic cleansing of Amharas, their systematic impoverishment and a genocidal movement to depopulate Amharas.
At the same time, ethnic violence against innocent Amharas living outside the "Amhara Region" has been increasing at an alarming rate. Attacks are particularly concentrated in the Oromia and Benishangul-Gumuz Regions, where ethno-nationalist terrorist groups, such as the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), and ethnic-based militias, e.g. Gumuz militias, have committed unimaginable atrocities against innocent Amharas. Incidents include the mutilation of young children, brutalizing unborn fetuses' alongside their mothers, and massacre of entire families.
The Amhara Association of America (AAA) was established to bring awareness to these atrocities and abuses, organize and unite the Amhara diaspora, and strengthen our people to defend themselves against oppression and targeting.
Our mission is to inform, organize and empower Amharas in America, to ensure all Ethiopians can live freely and with dignity in Ethiopia.
