Preliminary Report on the February 19, 2024 Drone Attack in Sasit (Gawna Kebele) of North Shewa Zone, Amhara Region, Ethiopia

AAA has verified that on February 19, 2024, a drone attack launched by Abiy regime forces indiscriminately killed at least 41 civilians and injured 18 others in a place called Sasit, Gawna Kebele, located an estimated 20-km from Sela-Dingay, the administrative center of Mojana Wedera Woreda (North Shewa Zone, Amhara Region, Ethiopia).

Report on injury of Amhara detainees due to harsh weather, deprivation and mistreatment in Awash Arba detention facility

AAA has received credible information from various sources that 29 detainees including 21 political figures and journalists arrested in connection with the ongoing war on Amhara Region sustained physical injuries ranging from moderate to serious in severity following a storm that took place on February 15, 2024, beginning at 6:00 pm in Awash Arba detention facility.

Preliminary Report on the Merawi Massacre

The Amhara Association of America (AAA) has verified that on January 29, 2024, Abiy regime forces massacred at least 89 unarmed civilians in Merawi town (Amhara Region, Ethiopia). On that day, heavy gunfire exchange took place in Merawi town and surrounding villages between Amhara Fano freedom fighters (Fano) and the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) and allied forces

Weekly Update on the Ongoing War on Amhara - Dec 17-24, 2023

The Amhara Association of America (AAA) has investigated human rights violations and developments related to the war on Amhara for the period between December 17 to 24, 2023. AAA has documented ongoing fighting between Fano freedom fighters and Abiy regime forces throughout Amhara Region, ongoing mass arrests targeting prominent Amhara figures throughout the country (including opposition figures and lawyers), and continued ethnic-based attacks on Amhara civilians by the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) in Oromia Region.

AAA has documented Ethiopian authorities’ continued mass arrests of Amhara politicians, journalists, civic association leaders, activists, and even lawyers representing victims arrested since April 2023 when widespread civil protests began and in the following months as armed conflict ensued between Fano freedom fighters and regime forces.
