In conflict which has continued in Amhara Region four health professionals have been killed and a large number have been arrested according to the Amhara Region Healthcare Professionals Association.
The Amhara Region Healthcare Professionals Association’s secretary said, “in various parts of the region, health professionals have lost their freedom to work” adding, “the professionals are killed and arrested in attacks by armed forces.”
Over the past two weeks in West and North Gojjam Zones, two pharmacists were killed and yesterday night in Bahir Dar city, a nurse was shot by unknown militants and became injured said the association’s secretary.
A medical professional residing in Central Gonder Zone who spoke on condition of anonymity including not mentioning the medical facility where they work said two professional colleagues working in Metemma General Hospital and a director in Ayera Hospital in Gonder city were arrested after being accused of “having ties with Fano.”
We called the Amhara Region Government Communication Services Office Head’s mobile phone to obtain further details surrounding the matter but they did not answer and so their views were not included.
