During fighting yesterday between the government and Fano armed groups over 28 injured people were admitted to Debark General Hospital including a 3 year old child, and two people died says a hospital director.
The director Ato Amlak told Voice of America today that among those who died were one combatant and one civilian. They said more than 7 people died before reaching the hospital including the child’s father.
Similarly yesterday in Dabat town the administrator of Chila Kebele Ato Minale Gimbneh said they witnessed more than 6 houses struck by heavy artillery when they traveled to the area to participate in the military operations.
In addition we tried to contact the mobile phone of North Gonder Zone Deputy Administrator and Peace and Security Head Ato Bimirew Kassie for further information on the two woredas however he did not answer so it was not possible to include his commentary.
The Amhara Fano Gonder Command’s Head of Operations Ato Anteneh Dires said there was conflict but said, “Fano fighters have not caused any harm to civilians”.
Ato Anteneh Dires said they did conduct battle in areas surrounding Gonder city and told Voice of America, “we have taken control of most areas of the city”.
Voice of America was not able to independently verify whether the Fano armed groups had control of Gonder city and various other areas of Amhara.
Thus far there has been no comment from the government regarding fighting which took place yesterday and today between government and Fano armed groups in North Gonder Zone. Voice of America’s efforts to contact the government communications services office for more information on the matter was not successful.
