Last month alone, 15 children died from a measles outbreak following suspension of regular vaccinations in Wag Hemra Zone, says the zonal health office.
The office head Ato Assefa Negash told Voice of America today (Tuesday) that infants have not been able to receive regular vaccinations due to the ongoing security problem.
The measles outbreak which first occurred over five months ago in Sehala-Seyemit Woreda has now expanded and now over 2,000 infants have been infected by the outbreak.
The head said a vaccination campaign would soon begin to vaccinate infants, and called on aid organizations to lend their support to help professionals reach infants in woredas with limited access.
