Press Statement from Amhara Fano in Gonder

September 3, 2024 (Nehase 28, 2016 EC)

The Political Outcome of Murder, Terrorism and Abductions against the Public is State Terrorism

The Prosperity Party regime which lacks the capacity to lead a country, has perpetrated countless evil acts in its genocide against the Amhara people. The government structure which is guided by an anti-Amhara ideology has used the massacre of Amhara people as a tool of its conspiracy politics which is evidenced by the terrorist acts it carries out against the people.

The Abiy Ahmed led Prosperity Party regime which set out with hatred against the Amhara people has faced popular resistance from Fano which set out to mitigate the existential threat against the Amhara people and in doing so has dismantled the regime’s administrative structure, securing military victories and marching forward. In response, the regime has resorted to abducting people and stealing vehicles for ransom in various parts of Gonder in order to defame Fano which we have addressed in several media appearances in recent months.

The regime which lacks popular support and the disposition to administer a country, has deployed its military agents to carry out evil acts against our people which fall outside moral, traditional, spiritual and historic norms, and these acts of terrorism are part and parcel of the genocide waged against the Amhara people.

The Abiy Ahmed regime which has exposed our people to war, displacement and inflation has also been complicit in the recent attack on a child named Nolawit Zegeye in Gonder city. As further evidence of this, when residents of Gonder city came out to protest the regime's past transgressions and the horrific killing of the child, they were met with gunfire and three civilians were killed in cold blood in the city center. Such reprehensible acts are typical of terrorist groups but are not expected from a government which administers a country.

The Amhara Fano in Gonder will continue its struggle to dislodge the regime which perpetrated terrorist acts against young Nolawit Zegeye and city residents, and extends its condolences to the family members of Nolawit, city residents and the greater Amhara people. We also call upon our people to self-organize and protect their neighborhoods and to expose the individuals responsible for this act. We call upon international human rights organizations, institutions advancing children's rights and security, and various international governments should condemn the perpetrators of these acts, the Prosperity Party regime.

Our survival through our collective strength!

Arbegna Baye KenawCommander, Amhara Fano in Gonder
