Press Statement from the Amhara Fano Gonder Command

No: AFGC/36/2017

Date: September 13, 2024

From; Amhara Fano Gondar Command,

Gondar, Amhara, Ethiopia

To; International Red Cross Association (IRCA)

Dear Sir/Madam,

We are writing to you on behalf of the Amhara Fano Gondar force in Ethiopia,

regarding barbaric war waged against the Amhara people by the Federal Government of Ethiopia. As IRCA may be aware, our forces have captured a significant number of combatants from the Ethiopian National Defense Force, and we are committed to treating them with dignity and respect in accordance with international humanitarian law.

However, we are facing a critical shortage of humanitarian aid, including food, clothing, and medicine, for the surrendering combatants. It is imperative that we provide these basic necessities to ensure the well-being and humane treatment of these individuals. As a result, we are reaching out to the International Red Cross Association to request your assistance in providing the necessary humanitarian support.

According to the Geneva Conventions and other international humanitarian law instruments, it is the responsibility of all parties involved in armed conflicts to ensure the protection and well-being of all individuals affected by the conflict, including prisoners of war and surrendering combatants. We are committed to upholding these principles and are seeking your support in fulfilling our obligations.

We understand the importance of impartiality and neutrality in humanitarian assistance, and we trust that the International Red Cross Association will provide the necessary aid without discrimination or bias. We are ready to cooperate fully with your organization to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the surrendering combatants in our custody.

We appreciate your prompt attention to this matter and look forward to your positive response. Your assistance in providing humanitarian aid to the surrendering combatants will not only alleviate their suffering but also contribute to the promotion of peace and respect for human rights in our region.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Habte Woldie

Amhara Fano Gondar Command

Commander in Chief
